What is image compression?
Image compression reduces the file size of a picture by storing its data more efficiently. Lossy formats like JPG and WEBP discard visual detail your eye barely notices, while PNG compression reduces the number of colors used. A well-compressed photo is often 5–20× smaller than the original with no visible difference — which means faster websites, quicker uploads and less storage used.

›Is my image uploaded to your servers?
No. The compression runs entirely in your browser using the HTML5 canvas — your image never leaves your device. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads and the tool keeps working.
›What quality setting should I use?
For photos, 70–85% quality is usually indistinguishable from the original while cutting the file size dramatically. Go lower (50–70%) for web thumbnails, higher (85–95%) for printing.
›Why did my PNG get bigger after compression?
PNG is lossless, so an already-optimized PNG can't always be squeezed further. Try lowering the color count, or convert to WEBP or JPG for much smaller results.
›Does compression remove EXIF data like GPS location?
Yes. The image is re-encoded from raw pixels, which strips all EXIF metadata — camera model, GPS location and timestamps — a nice privacy bonus.
›Is there a file limit?
You can compress images up to 20 MB, one at a time, completely free and without an account.
